Case 1: Dheeraj Gupta's Ordeal: Allegations, Arrest and the Fight for Justice
Dheeraj Gupta, a resident of Vishwakarma Colony in Delhi, saw his life change dramatically in 2023 when he became the subject of a rape complaint that he consistently maintained was false.
The complaint, registered at a women’s police station in July 2023, related to an alleged incident said to have occurred several months earlier at a shopping mall in Faridabad. According to the allegations, Dheeraj was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a vehicle parked within the mall premises. Dheeraj denied the allegations from the beginning and stated that he had never met or interacted with the complainant.
As the case unfolded, Dheeraj and his family were approached by Mukesh Narwat, a person known to the family for many years and someone they considered a trusted acquaintance. Mukesh allegedly claimed he could help resolve the matter and reportedly suggested that a substantial payment be made to settle the dispute.
Fearing the consequences of the criminal allegations and hoping to protect their son, Dheeraj’s family reportedly arranged and paid a significant amount of money. Despite this, Dheeraj was arrested and sent to jail.
He spent more than three months in custody while legal proceedings continued. During this period, his family faced immense emotional and financial pressure. His wife, who was expecting a child at the time, reportedly endured severe stress, while his elderly parents struggled to navigate the legal process and secure assistance for their son.
The case has often been cited by men’s rights advocates as an example of the devastating consequences that can arise when individuals become entangled in allegations they claim are untrue. It also highlights the importance of thorough investigations, due process, and safeguards against extortion and misuse of legal provisions.
