Case 3: Ayushi Bhatia: Investigation Into Multiple Rape Complaints Filed Across Gurugram

Ayushi Bhatia, a student and graduate of Atma Ram College, Delhi University, came under investigation after multiple criminal complaints filed by her against different men in Gurugram attracted the attention of law-enforcement agencies.

Given the number of complaints and the recurring nature of the allegations, Gurugram Police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter. During the course of the investigation, additional complaints were reportedly filed, prompting further scrutiny by the authorities.

According to police records, investigators examined digital communications, financial transactions, witness statements, and other evidence connected with the various cases. Based on the findings of the investigation, authorities registered additional criminal charges relating to allegations of extortion, criminal intimidation, conspiracy, and related offences.

According to reports, Ayushi had filed rape complaints against several men across different police stations within a relatively short period. The complaints were reportedly based on allegations that the accused individuals had engaged in relationships with her under false promises of marriage.

As investigators began examining the pattern of complaints, authorities reportedly found similarities in the circumstances surrounding multiple cases. Several of the accused stated that they had met Ayushi through social media platforms, dating applications, fitness centres, or mutual social circles and that their relationships had been consensual.

Subsequently, Ayushi Bhatia was arrested along with her mother, who was alleged by investigators to have played a supporting role in certain aspects of the operation. Both became subjects of ongoing legal proceedings.

The case generated significant public discussion regarding the need for thorough investigation of serious criminal allegations while ensuring that both complainants and accused persons receive fair treatment under the law.

Several individuals named in the complaints stated that the allegations had caused severe damage to their personal lives, careers, reputations, and mental well-being. At the same time, legal experts emphasized the importance of allowing courts to determine the facts based on evidence presented during the judicial process.

The matter remains an important case study in discussions surrounding due process, investigative standards, and the balance between protecting genuine victims and preventing the alleged misuse of criminal provisions.
